Depression

My specialism is helping people through periods of depression. In my therapy practice in Surrey, I’ll create a safe space where you can trust that your thoughts and feeling will be held securely during our sessions. 

If you have had reservations regarding talking to someone about your emotions in the past, you will be surprised by how easily you can trust someone new, who is primed for listening, more than you perhaps could your own family and friends. 

Depression can feel like a sinking hole. Anything you think of doesn’t feel like enough to move you forward. Even if you start to move forward it can quickly and unexpectedly pull you back. 

Depression is a form of illness that stops you from being who you want to be. You first need to know why you are depressed before you can carve out a better path for yourself. 

Everyone experiences periods of depression sometimes but when it occurs there might be patterns in the changes you make to your lifestyle. Perhaps stopping doing certain activities or feeling more tired. Some can cover it with a happy mask but this is a form of protection to avoid having others see how you really feel. 

In my Surrey therapy practice, it’s important to treat each case of depression on an individual basis. I will help you to understand your own trigger points so that we can build safeguards in the future.

Positivity will open up many doors but sometimes you have to learn how to hold yourself to a higher standard and be strong within yourself. This can feel like a real awakening – maybe even a bit of a shock to the system – because you’ll be stepping outside of your comfort zone and embarking on a different way of thinking and being.

Dealing with a long-term issue, such as depression, can feel like a daunting journey. However, in my Surrey NLP therapy sessions, will ensure that the help you need is fast and effective. You will come out at the other end with a positive mindset. Most importantly you will feel empowered to continue the journey independently.

Here are some of the tools that I can use to help you with depressive feelings.

I use a process called anchoring which can quickly help you to recall positive feelings and to rid yourself of the negative ones. That way, your energy can be used to move you towards a more helpful life goal.

Using ideas of success and positivity will create visual images of the future you want to have and override any negative thoughts that are stuck and continually focused on, even when you try to look past them.

I will give you the correct tools to move forward and to continue to work on yourself in the future so that therapy with me is not a lifelong investment, but rather a strategic reset button. 

A great deal of the work I do to help those with depression involves reframing so that you can see how your circumstances can change in a moment. Sometimes this can lead us on a journey of seeing our circumstances in a new way, even if we cannot change them. 

Sometimes depression creeps in unexpectedly but at other times there has been a life trauma that you keep getting pulled back to. It could be a text you receive or a flash of colour that pulls you back to an unwanted memory or its emotions. It can cause you to feel that you are the ‘lost’ one, that no one can connect with. At times these things can happen on an unconscious level so you may not have identified what those traumatic triggers are or why you are acting out as depressed. It may feel as if it is happening for no reason. I will help you to uncover those reasons and address them.

These techniques will help you to live your life the way you want to and will enable you to develop the resilience to overcome any future setbacks. These techniques are designed to gently prod you into better knowing and expressing your goals and yourself, maintaining your positive states of mind and creating your own tools and models to use in the future.
